Painting of the Week (1)

Hello art folks!

As far as possible I will be posting up a 'painting of the week (POTW)' for us to be acquainted with more artworks, relevant to what we are studying at that moment.

For this week, the painting is:

Bird In Space, 1923 by Constantin Brancusi

About this abstract sculpture:

From the 1920s to the '40s, Brancusi was preoccupied by the theme of a bird in flight. He concentrated not on the physical attributes of the bird but on its movement. In Bird in Space, wings and feathers are eliminated, the swell of the body is elongated, and the head and beak are reduced to a slanted oval plane. Balanced on a slender conical footing, the figure's upward thrust is unfettered. The marble surfaces are painstakingly smoothed and polished. Brancusi's inspired abstraction realizes his stated intent to capture "the essence of flight."

Art Class with Taiwan Exchange Students

Today the Taiwan exchange students had a special art class with Mr Tang, where they learnt how to use the plaster-of-paris to create their own 'plate' and did ink transfer on it. For perhaps the first time I heard Mr Tang conduct a full lesson in chinese! The Taiwan students are nice people, and thankfully communication wasn't an issue. A few of us helped out, and here are the pictures:

Extension For Sculpture Assignment

Hi all,

Please take note that Mr Tang has kindly extended the sculpture deadline to 15 August, Friday, so that we can make use of the national day holidays to watch the Olympics and do it. All the best!

Hi!!! This is my 1st post here. Show some face pls!!

For the toilet project in November/December, we need some people to form a committe. The committe has to do all those admistrativ and designing and stuff. if u just want to help design, you are welcomed to do so too. We also need a treasurer( preferbly honest) cos if Mr Chan is not stingy, the amount of money will be quite alot. It could be a little bit busy, but I think can write in your T3A? lol. Or get summore CIP hours.

J2s are welcomed to do so too if you can handle your course work and this thingy. =) (Art club must see if got space in committe 1st)
